Kern Place Veterinary Team: The Heart of our Practice

Dr. Kari Clement is a ninth generation El Pasoan and is very proud of her El Paso and Texas heritage. She graduated from Burges High School, completed her undergraduate degree in Animal Science at New Mexico State and attended Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in St. Kitts finishing her clinical year at Tufts in Boston. Dr. Clement has had a passion for animals since she was three years old which her parents so greatly encouraged. She started her journey in veterinary medicine as a technician for almost 8 years after high school starting in Southern California and continuing while finishing her undergraduate degree at the Animal Emergency Center of El Paso.

Dr. Clement spent her first year in practice at a small animal general practice hospital in Las Cruces.  She has since spent the last seven years working as an emergency clinician at the El Paso Emergency Center.  She has always had a passion for emergency and critical care and has a special interest in surgery.  However, the God-given opportunity to maintain the lasting patient and client relationships that general practice provides has always been something dear to her heart.  She finds herself very blessed, humbled and privileged to be able to practice in the city of her heritage that has given her so much.

Dr. Clement finds incredible passion not only in helping her patients, but also bringing comfort, empathy and joy to their families and the community overall.  She looks forward to being a part of a team to bring a new standard of care to the residents of the historic Kern area, the city of El Paso and its surrounding neighbors!

​​​​​​​In her free time, Dr. Clement’s hobbies include running, jujitsu, playing the piano and cooking. Most of her focus though is spending time with her two beautiful children! The family’s animal members include – two kittens Buttermilk Ice Cream and Messi and a ball python named Bows.

We are fortunate to have Dr. Lauren Boyer as one of our relief veterinarians. Dr. Lauren Boyer graduated from The University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine in 2012. She spent the first 13 years of her career working at East El Paso Animal Hospital practicing small animal medicine and soft tissue surgery.  Dr. Boyer enjoys internal medicine, ultrasound, dental procedures, and spending time educating owners on preventative medicine.  She has a passion for working in general practice as it gives her the opportunity to give consistent care to the pet patients she treats over the course of their life span, and it gives her the ability to form a long term, trusting relationship with her clients as well.

Dr. Boyer is passionate about organized veterinary medicine.  She is actively involved in the Texas Veterinary Medical Association playing an active role in helping shape veterinary medicine throughout the state of Texas. Locally, she spent about 10 years serving on the executive committee for the El Paso Veterinary Medical Association.  More recently, she started a DVM mom’s group here in El Paso. She loves the unique cohesiveness of the El Paso Veterinary Community, where veterinary professionals all work together to help give pets the best medical care.

Dr. Boyer grew up in Pennsylvania, and as a child she wanted to be a veterinarian for as long as she can remember.  She started observing with her hometown veterinarian, Dr. Kathy Chrnoister, when she was in grade school. While obtaining her bachelor’s degree in Biology from Mansfield University, she worked as a veterinary assistant at a local Veterinary Hospital. The summer after she earned her undergraduate degree, she moved to Columbia, Missouri and started her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree.  Here in El Paso, she lives with her husband; who is a professor at UTEP, her two sons, their cat, Nermal, and their dog, Shepherd.  In her free time, she enjoys traveling, especially to beaches, hiking, and spending time with her boys.

Jeanette is the Practice Manager for Kern Place Veterinary, she is a native El Pasoan, working in veterinary medicine for 16 years. She has a passion for animal welfare and veterinary medicine, with over 10 years of emergency and critical care and over 5 years of preventative and wellness care.

Her hobbies when not working with her wonderful team include reading novels, baking delicious treats for loved ones, gardening and traveling. Her home life includes a large gang of furry four-legged dogs and cats, along with one grumpy turtle. She is fluent in English and Spanish but also has a passion to learn conversational Italian and French. Jeanette looks forward to building her incredible team to be a high standard in excellent veterinary care and to work closely with her clients to ensure a cohesive relationship.
